Transition Year

Spanish course for Transition Year students from Ireland

Do you want to make the most of your Transition Year? Top School has an exclusive program dedicated to Irish students who are attending their transition year. A unique opportunity to mature, learn from a new culture, make new friends and of course, improve your level of Spanish.

In the Transition Program students will attend a public school in Elche (Alicante) with other Spanish students of the same age and will stay with a host family, the best way to practice Spanish 24 hours a day.

Location

Students will attend a public secondary school in Elche (Alicante). Located on the Mediterranean coast, Elche is the perfect city for young student, because it has an excellent climate throughout the year. It is a medium sized city, allowing teens to be able to move easily and safely from one place to another and in addition, it is a modern and dynamic city with many young people, as it has 3 universities, though which, there is a wide offer of leisure and sports activities for teenagers.

Colegio

Students participating in this program will have the opportunity to discover what the life of students in Spain is like as they will attend a Spanish public school as any other student. The school hours for secondary school students are usually between 08:00 and 15:00, with two breaks during the school day.ç

In the school transition students will be enrolled in a course with students of their own age, where in addition to learning the different subjects in Spanish, they will have the opportunity to make new friends and share this experience with them.

Duration of the programme and dates

Students and their families can choose the start date and duration of the programme, from 2 weeks to a full academic year, however, to make the most of the opportunity we recommend a minimum stay of 6 to 8 weeks.

Our Transition Programme begins in mid-September with the beginning of the school year in Spain and ends in mid-June, when the school year comes to an end. Students who participate in the transition program must respect the school days of Spain and also the holiday periods.

The first day of course

Students will arrive in Spain over the weekend (Saturday or Sunday). Upon arrival at the airport, the student will be welcomed by their host family, who will take them home to settle in.

On Monday the school routine starts. A representative of Top School will accompany the student on the first day to the school to help them, introduce them to their teacher and advise them about the optional subjects, etc.

At the end of the stay, students will also leave Spain during the weekend and the host family will go with them to the airport to say goodbye.
