Toledo

Toledo, known as the City of the Three Cultures, was declared a World Heritage Site in 1986 for its great beauty and historical value. The city stands on a rocky hill surrounded by the Tagus River, about 70 kilometres from Madrid.

Toledo keeps a great historical heritage representative of three of the most influential civilizations of the Spanish culture: the Muslim, the Jewish and the Christian. The city is dotted with churches, synagogues, mosques, convents, walls, bridges, towers and all kinds of historic buildings that make it a unique city.

Segovia

Segovia is a beautiful historic city that holds the title of World Heritage declared by UNESCO since 1985. The city is famous for its Roman aqueduct, which dates back to the second century A.D. and, after several restorations, it is kept in excellent condition. However, the heritage of the city includes much more than that, standing out its gorgeous Alcázar, which rises imposingly over the city.

During the tour, the students of our Spanish school can visit the Calle Real, the Casa de los Picos, the Plaza San Martin, the Plaza Mayor, the Cathedral and the Alcázar. A comprehensive tour so that you do not miss a single detail of this beautiful city.

Avila

Avila is a beautiful medieval town whose foundation dates back to the late first century B.C. The walls surrounding the city are its main attraction and gives the city a medieval appearance that earned it the title of World Heritage Site in 1985. With a perimeter of 2.516 metres, 87 towers and 9 gates, it is considered the best preserved urban fortified enclosure in the world. However, the wall is not its only attraction. Ávila retains Romanesque and Hebrew vestiges as well as palaces, churches, convents and monasteries that tell the history of the city from its founding to the present day.

On this guided tour, we will visit the Reception Visitor Centre, San Vicente, the Plaza de Italia, the Plaza Mercado Grande, the Cathedral, the Jardín del Rastro, the Plaza de La Santa, the Plaza Mercado Chico and the Walls of Avila. An interesting tour where you will visit very corner of this delightful city.

El Escorial + Valley of the Fallen

The Monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial is an impressive monument complex consisting of several buildings: a royal palace, a basilica, a monastery, a mausoleum and a library. Its construction dates back to the sixteenth century and was ordered by King Felipe II. The Royal Palace has been long used as a residence of the Spanish monarchs, which is why it is also called the “Palacio de los Austrias”. The basilica is used as the burial place of the Kings of Spain. In addition, the monastery houses reliquaries that conserve a collection of about 7.500 relics collected by King Philip II over the years.

During this tour, students will not only have a chance to visit the Monastery of El Escorial, but also the “Casita del Principe” and the “Casita del Infante”, two residences belonging to the Spanish Royal Family.

The Holy Cross of the Valley of the Fallen Benedictine Abbey is a monumental ensemble located north of the Monastery of El Escorial, which was built between 1940 and 1958 on the orders of the then dictator, Francisco Franco, who is buried in the basilica. This monument was built in order to commemorate the human losses caused by the Spanish Civil War. Some 40.000 National and Republican soldiers are buried in it. Crowning the basilica, a huge 150-metre high granite cross rises, which is its most distinctive symbol.
